Mascara Care Tips
Caring for your lashes include proper use of eye make-up, especially mascara. When you are not careful, it can cause your lashes to fall out.
It is perfectly normal for a few lashes to fall out now and then. Our eyelashes have a 30-45 day growth cycle, out with the old, in with the new.
However, if you are noticing an excessive loss, you might need to look further into the cause and take some preventative measures.
- Eyelash Curlers
While we all use these, maybe next time think twice. These little tools bend and pull your lashes and even break them sometimes. Especially do not use after applying mascara as the lash is sticky and it may stay with the lash curler and not your eyelid! Be sire to use these gently and with care.
- Applying Mascara
Here is the best way to apply:
Upper Lashes: use a rolling technique starting as close to the lash line as possible and coat to the end of the lashes gently curving them upward as you go. Powder the lashes and reapply.
Bottom lashes can be a little more tricky. You have to hold the wand perpendicular to the eye and parallel to the lashes. This prevents mascara from marring below the eye. It also allows you to hit the corners of the eyes using this technique. And be sure to DO the lower lashes. It looks odd if you ignore the lower and just darken the upper lashes. On a last note, save an old brush that has been well cleaned to remove any clumps that occur and to separate lashes.
- Removing Mascara
We usually wipe or rub makeup from our eyes more harshly than it really seems. The eye area is delicate, including lashes. Find a good quality cleanser that will remove make-up with very little wiping or rubbing.
If you think about it, the use of eyemake removers cause you to wipe at the eye area and you don’t want to do this. It causes sagging and you already know how delicate this skin is. Instead, use a cleanser that will remove it.
- What Kind Of Mascara?
Waterproof mascara should be avoided mostly. It is harder to remove and can damage eyelashes when trying to get it off. Save that for weddings, funerals and chick flicks, ladies!
- Should I pay More For Good Quality Mascara?
Price is only a small factor in this instance. Regardless of the kind you choose, it should not melt, flake or clump. You can ask friends, or read about the best mascara, or better yet, post your fave right here on this blog!

- Prevent Bacteria This Way
Toss your mascara out after 4 months, sooner if the smell starts to go funky. Bad mascara is not only damaging to your lashes, it can hurt your eyes too.
